Sevenoaks Town women embark on new love affair with the FA Cup

Steve Rowley, Editor of Sevenoaks Sport & Wellbeing magazine talked to Sevenoaks Town FC’s Women’s manager Paul McDonagh about their new season in the South East Counties Premier Division and their hopes for a Women’s FA Cup run.

Paul said: “We’re looking forward to the new season, they’ve restructured the league a little bit, it’s going to be an interesting division, but more importantly we have our first ever FA Cup game for the club on the women’s side, and it’s very exciting.”

Sevenoaks Town will play Barking on Sunday 11th September at the Bourne Stadium in the club’s first ever women’s FA Cup match, the match will kick off at 2.30pm and Paul added: “It would be great for the club to get through to the second qualifying round, it’s important for the club, but more importantly we’re in it which is great!”

“The club Chairman has promised that we can keep any winnings from the first two rounds, so if that happens then the squad won’t have to pay a penny all season for training and subscriptions.”

Talking about the success of England’s Lionesses at the Euros in the summer Paul commented: “It’s a 100% step forward for women’s football. It’s important that it keeps progressing to build players careers, not just at the top level but the divisions below too.”
