The Performance Team at the Sennocke Sports Centre, Sevenoaks School are looking forward to continuing their hard work in 2018, building on the successes of 2017. According to Sports Performance Manager Garrath Williams, he, the Strength and Conditioning Coach Geoff Marshall, and the rest of the team are “excited to carry on where we left off last year and are keen to continue supporting schools and local sport”.
Intent on further developing local sporting relations throughout Sevenoaks and the surrounding area, the Performance Team are working on several initiatives that will be of interest to those who value sport by leaning on a growing network of local and elite level athletes, coaches and administrators.
In late January they will welcome athletes from select local clubs to the Sevenoaks Performance Conditioning Academy – enabling an Olympic insight into the general and specific development techniques required for top level athletes.
In February they will host a Sevenoaks Sports Coaches Forum to bring together the collective experience of our local and school coaches to form a network to share best practice, identify opportunities and seek solutions to common coaching problems.
At half term (12th – 16th February) the team will lead in the delivery of a number of Sevenoaks Sports Camps, which will include 3-day Skills Development Camps in a variety of sports and a Multi-Sports Camp aimed at younger children. Additionally, on 14th February, the team have invited England and Harlequins star Rachel Burford in to run a 1-day Girls’ Rugby Taster Day at the school – and we hope as many local girls will attend as possible.
Unlike many holiday camps, children will not be stuck outside for hours on end. Coaches work hard to ensure the unique Sevenoaks Sports Camps maximise the space, expertise and wonderful facilities available at Sevenoaks School. Designed and led by the Sevenoaks Performance Team, participants will also benefit from the expert Athletic Development advise delivered by our resident Strength & Conditioning Coach, use of video technology as well as receive leadership, injury prevention and nutrition advice. It’s hoped these unique camps will provide a great experience to all who attend.
In addition to the above, the Performance Team continue to support Sevenoaks School’s sport and PE programme, sports scholars, performance athletes and local athletes under the FANS Scheme. In 2018 the Sennocke Centre will continue to host many national and local clubs, including the Sevenoaks Suns, Chelsea FC and Saracens RFC. We wish them all the best for 2018 and hope these relationships will benefit the wider community as much as they will Sevenoaks School.
