Hundreds of spectators lined the banks of Chipstead Lake on Bank Holiday Monday as the Dragon Boat Festival got underway once again.
A record equalling 16 teams had entered this now annual event and they didn’t disappoint the crowds braving the non-typical holiday weather.
Skipper of Shame About Your Boat Race, Tony Hughes, has gathered his team for the last four years, however he has been runner up for the last two years behind Regan Rowers and Pilgrim Youth, individually run by two brothers who have battled out the final between them in both years.
This was to be Mr Hughes’ year though as Shame About Your Boat Race successfully won the festival and all rowers went home extremely happy, but tired.
The Sevenoaks Mayor, Cllr Roderick Hogarth, was also in attendance to support the Westerham Sea Cadets who were racing on behalf of the Mayor’s charity.
