Weather chaos cancels multiple fixtures

Sevenoaks Town Football Club were just one of a handful of teams to play their fixture over the weekend, with the majority being cancelled due to the wintry weather.

Town travelled to Ashford United, who play on a 3G pitch, on Saturday afternoon in the Bostik South Eastern Division, however they may have preferred it to be postponed as their went down 2-1.

Ashford were beaten earlier in the season by just one goal at the Bourne Stadium and were eager to overturn that result. After going two goals behind inside the first 10 minutes for the second time in two weeks, Sevenoaks couldn’t get the equalising goal this week.

Frankie Sawyer managed to get a goal back for Sevenoaks with a 62nd minute penalty, but it was too little too late as the match ended 2-1 to Ashford.

Corinthian FC, who top the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division saw their match at Lordswood called off and in the Kent County League, postponements for Otford United, Ide Hill, Chipstead and Halstead saw all tables remain the same.

With Ide Hill’s game at Sydenham Sports called off they remain top of the league, heading into two weekends of cup fixtures, and with no matches for Chipstead, it’ll be as you were when they both get back to the league on February 23rd.

Just three games survived in the Sevenoaks & District Football League as Otford United Reserves managed to put seven past Swanley Oaks in a Division One tussle to keep them in promotion contention.

Ide Hill Reserves won 2-0 on Knole Academy’s 3G pitch over Titan Tigers, with goals from Jason Miles-Lomas and Paul Scott. The win takes them back to the top of Division Three.

Division Four saw a fourteen goal thriller as Green Street Green Rovers overcame Westerham Reserves 9-5 to leapfrog them in the middle of the table.

In the only rugby fixture of the day Sevenoaks 4th XV switched their home match with local rivals Edenbridge. In a one-sided battle, Oaks came out on top winning 50-14.

Elsewhere, Sevenoaks Hockey Club Ladies 1st XI saw their return to league action postponed for another week as their match with St Albans was called off at Holly Bush Lane.

A couple of other hockey matches saw off the weather although Sevenoaks Men‘s 2nd XI would probably rather forget their trip to league leaders Lewes in the Kent/Sussex Regional 1 as they let in seven goals with no reply. Sevenoaks ladies 2nd XI took a trip to Harleston Magpies 2nd where they played out a goalless draw.

Let’s take it indoors
Swanley Netball Club were not bothered by the weather outside as some of their games went ahead indoors. Swanley Blues had a great game firing 18 goals past Shooters Black for no reply.

They commented on Facebook after the game: “There was great movement, passing and fabulous defence by both the attacking and defending players. It was a real team performance”.
