Sevenoaks Town Council adopts updated Sports Strategy

Sevenoaks Town Council has adopted its second Sevenoaks Town Sports Strategy, which provides recommendations on how future sports provision should be prioritised in order to meet the needs of local sporting groups, clubs and organisations.

The aim is to fairly distribute resources, diversify the local offer and encourage more people to engage in sporting activities.

As the culmination of a year and a half’s collaborative work between Sevenoaks Town Council and various local sporting bodies, the updated Sports Strategy can now be used to guide future improvements, and will be a valuable resource and supportive evidence for grant funding applications and development proposals.

It will also be used as an evidence base for the Sevenoaks Town Neighbourhood Plan at its five-year review, due in May 2028, informing any future revisions or additions to the planning policies on sports, just as its predecessor did.

The first Sevenoaks Town Sports Strategy was produced in 2015, adopted as an appendix to the Neighbourhood Plan, and has since resulted in a large number of the recommended improvements being delivered, with over £1.2 million invested into sports provision within Sevenoaks Town.

Examples of these projects include the 3G pitch at Greatness Recreation Ground, resurfacing of the Vine Cricket outfield, new floodlights at Knole Paddock, improved 3G hockey pitch at Hollybush Recreation Ground and a Multi Use Games Area at the Bat & Ball Centre – amongst many more.
