Tunbridge Wells in touching distance of Kent Premier title

Tunbridge Wells Cricket Club headed to the coast on Saturday to play Sandwich Town and were looking for another win to bolster their season in the Kent Premier Division.

In a surprise turn of events, the sun was shining, however Tunbridge Wells probably spent more time travelling than they did playing cricket, with just 56 overs of cricket being played on the day.

Sandwich won the toss and elected to field, putting the opposition opening partnership of Christopher Williams and Ollie Morgan into bat. Neither could muster a strong defence however and Tunbridge Wells were soon 57/6. Calvin Johnson (22) and Michael Waller (21) steadied the ship but they were ultimately all bowled out for 101 runs.

Sandwich, who are in danger of being dragged into the relegation battle probably thought this was an easy win, however they probably hadn’t counted on Matthew Barker who bowled 10 overs with figures of 23 runs for six wickets. Waller joined in the fun (16/3) and at one stage Sandwich were on 49/9 before a last knock of 24 for .Ben Smith saw the record a total of 77 all out. Tunbridge Wells will have enjoyed that day!
