Town joy at first league win of the season

Sevenoaks Town are finally underway in the Bostik League as they triumphed over VCD Athletic 3-1 on Saturday with all the goals coming in the first half.

On the same ground where Sevenoaks won the SCEFL Championship last season, they lined up against the home side who had already bagged four wins for the season.

VCD Athletic went ahead in this match in the 23rd minute when Charlie MacDonald drilling the ball high into the net from the penalty spot giving Ben Bridle-Card no chance.

Sevenoaks equalised in the 38th minute when Osman Proni sent a low left foot shot past the keeper into the bottom corner, and then doubled their score a minute later as Alec Fiddes dispatched another low left foot shot into the corner.

Just five minutes later, Frankie Sawyer was given time in the box to turn and fire his shot past the keeper.

A tense second half ensued but Sevenoaks were able to hold on for their first historic win in the Bostik League.

Sevenoaks Town Squad: Ben Bridle-Card, Fraser Walker, Rob Saunders, Osman Proni, Jack Miles, Tom Ripley, Greg Benbow, Alec Fiddes, Mikey Dalton, Frankie Sawyer and Sam Crabb. Sunstitutes: Zac Attwood, Luke Coleman, Johnson-Cole, Wasiri Williams and Kenny Pogue.

Creating chances
Last week, Sevenoaks Town travelled to Three Bridges for a bottom of the table clash where Sevenoaks unfortunately suffered another defeat. To say they were poor would have been a compliment and changes were definitely overdue.

Sevenoaks Town manager Micky Collins announced, via Twitter after this defeat, that he’d already taken steps to change things with two new signings at the club. In came Fraser Walker from Corinthian-Casuals and William Johnson-Cole from Punjab United. They follow hot on the footsteps of Wasiri Williams who signed the previous week.

Going the other way see’s Jake McIntyre joining Thamesmead Town, whilst Billy Bennett and Paul Springett have yet to agree terms with other clubs.
