Tonbridge Angels were the underdogs going into their League Cup match as they faced Premier Division side Margate at The Gallagher Stadium in April.
After a slow start which saw Margate take a well deserved lead, Tonbridge came back into the match, equalising from the penalty spot. Gemma Sullivan converted the spot kick after Faith Gilson was brought down just inside the box.
1-1 and the teams headed into extra time where Tonbridge were now the brighter of the teams and it wasn’t long before Mandy Beeput dispossessed a Margate defender and finished calmly to give Angels the lead.
That’s how the score line stayed and Tonbridge Angels were the SECWFL League Cup winners for 2024.
Tonbridge will now try to topple Cray Wanderers at the top of the Kent 1 West Division, although Cray do have the upper hand with just two games to go.
A great season for the newly reformed side and we anticipate much more success in the future.
