Tom’s in a league of his own as he heads for Olympic Trials

Continuing his exclusive column for Sevenoaks Sport & Wellbeing magazine, Kemsing’s very own world record holder and Olympic athlete, Tom Bosworth, joins us once again to talk about his preparation ahead of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo this year.

“February has flown by, well the first half did. After arriving home from my warm weather training camp in Dubai, I finished off with two more big weeks of training. However, in doing so I antagonised an old hip problem which I had back in 2019. The last two weeks have been putting that right ahead of the Olympic Trials on March 26th at Kew Gardens.

Injuries and set backs are part of the athlete lifestyle and learning from them is what makes an athlete great. We have got on top of the problem and I’m back training now, despite still not at twice a day training sessions yet, I’m back walking around 10km a day. Meaning I should be back in plenty of time ahead of my first race of the year, the Olympic Trials.

Rumour has it, the BBC may be streaming the 20km, which is on the same morning as the Olympic Marathon Trials. So keep your eye out on the Red button on the 26th. It could be the day that myself and other athletes secure their places on Team GB for the Tokyo Olympic Games.

I also did some really exciting filming with the Sky TV show A League Of Their Own earlier in February, so if you have Sky, keep your eye out for me and the race walking feature! It was great fun to meet the cast and film for the show.

Like most of us I’ve not been up to much else, just plenty of medical treatment and easing back into training. You can keep up with my training via my social media channels, @TomBosworth and feel free to get in touch with any questions via my social media or www.tombosworth.com – I’d love to hear from you!

Brighter days are ahead, so keep strong, make sure you get yourself out the house and take a walk to keep yourself mentally and physically strong. I look forward to my next update, when perhaps I’ll have secured my place in Team GB at this summers Olympic Games.”
