Tom wins 7th British title as injuries fade on final leg to Tokyo

“What a month June has been. We finally had a bit of sunshine. Then I decided to train inside in a heat chamber. It was all for a good reason, as we are only weeks away from the Tokyo Olympics, meaning we were training on a treadmill in a room set to Tokyo temperatures. It was brutal!

I got my best 20km race in for nearly two years in Spain as well, walking home in 1hr 21mins 37secs and then I became the British 5000m champion for a seventh time, even this surprised me!

All in all June has been a fabulous month, training has gone well after months of hip and hamstring problems. I received all my Olympic kit from Team GB… check out my YouTube channel to see my mini Vlog from kitting out.

I’ve been walking 100km+ for weeks now, pushing my body day in day out. I’m still not at my best, but I had enough to win the British title right at the end of last month in Manchester in a new stadium record time.

Tom Bosworth shows off his Team GB gear that he’ll be taking to Tokyo with him in August!

This July I’ll be training away at altitude in Font Romeu in the south of France as we make the final preparations before the Olympic Games. This year hasn’t gone to plan on the track, injuries have flared up at every corner, but I whisper it quietly, I’m starting to feel like my injuries are almost in the past. I wish I had more chances to race but the time is now to focus on being as race ready in Tokyo as possible. Keep an eye out for my face on TV this month too, I’ll be featuring in an Olympic advert!

There’s going to be a strict testing regime in the weeks before we fly out and also when we arrive in Japan, but I’ll cover all that in next month’s issue. I only have time for a brief update this month, however, that’s because I’m training hard and not much else at the moment. The results are starting to come together, let’s hope it all goes to plan in Tokyo.

Thanks for all the local Sevenoaks support this year, it’s meant so much to me. Let’s hope we can all have a relatively normal summer this year!”
