Swanley RFC’s team are sitting proudly on top of the Kent Merit League’s Cinque 4 West Division, however they are by no means alone.
Local rivals Sevenoaks 4th and Edenbridge are in second and third places respectively. With only a few matches to go this could be anyone’s title as Swanley have to play both of their local rivals again before the end of the season.
Sevenoaks 4th are perhaps best placed to take the title with a game in hand and only the one point difference between them and Swanley.
Swanley however have not had to complete five of their outings this season after ‘walking-over’ their opponents. This means that the deficit is too great by halftime so the referee is asked to stop the game, unless both teams agree to continue. Sevenoaks have benefited from three of these rulings and Edenbridge just the two, such is the gap in the league from top to bottom.
Fixtures
Swanley will meet Old Gravesendians 2nd in an away fixture in March before heading to Sheppey 2nd, with their last two matches at home. The first one against Edenbridge on April 7th before hosting Sevenoaks 4th on April 14 in their season finale.
Edenbridge host Vigo 3rd and Gillingham Anchorians 2nd in March with a visit to Old Gravesendians 2nd in between. After their match at Swanley they finish with a home fixture against Sheppey 2nd.
Sevenoaks 4th host Sheppey 2nd and New Ash Green 2nd in March, with bottom of the league, Tunbridge Wells 4th, going to the Paddock in early April. Sevenoaks finish their season with an away match at Maidstone 3rd.
These teams are a great representatives of local rugby and should you get the chance to pop along on a Saturday afternoon, then you are strongly urged to do so. We can’t wait to see this one play out.
