Swanley Netball Club return to the court post Covid

Whilst the effects of Covid 19 have been felt throughout the netballing community, since getting the roadmap back to netball from All England, and following strict guidelines, Swanley Netball Club have been back on court working on fitness, catching up with each other and encouraging even more local players to join the club than ever before.

Courtesy of an Emergency Everyday Active grant from Kent Sport – a project which aims to encourage and increase participation in physical activity of residents within Kent and Medway, affected by the impact of Covid-19, the club were able to host a netball fun day which helped the club to see an uptake over the summer, and despite the lockdown, the club have now grown to five senior teams and three junior teams, as well as an U8 training squad.

The first team were recently delighted to secure promotion into Division 1 of the North West Kent Netball League, where they are now in the top 8 teams out of 96 in the league. This is the highest the team have ever featured in the biggest netball league in the UK.

After a short delay due to Covid-19, the New Winter League started at the end of October with Swanley facing Wealden in their opening game. In a match the club knew would be a strong test, the newly promoted club came away victorious in a thrilling 31-33 win for the Sevenoaks District club.

“To be promoted to top division was a huge achievement for us, so it was important we made a statement first win.“
