The Head Coach at Swanley Netball Club was recently awarded an MBE by HRH the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle. Janet Hills MBE was presented with the award for her services to policing and the community. She retired from the Metropolitan Police Service in August 2021 after serving as an officer for 30 years. Janet was the first female Chair of the Met Black Police Association from 2013 to 2021, and the President of the National Black Police Association from 2015 to 2017.
Janet has been Head Coach at Swanley netball club since 2015 and managed the Met Police netball section prior to retiring. She passed her UKCC level 2 coaching qualification in 2009 and has coached for a number of clubs in Kent and Surrey. The club has gone from strength to strength, with five senior teams and a junior section that caters up to year 9.
Janet works alongside a team of seven coaches that provides netball training on a Tuesday evening from 6.30pm to 9.30pm at Swanley Recreation Ground. The teams have regular competitions and play their league matches on Saturdays at Bromley High School. Swanley Netball Club also have an U16 and U18 squad, that play in the Kent County Junior League.
Janet is passionate about women and young girls participating in sport and wants to make netball accessible to all.
