Southborough Football Club are a seasoned hit!

Two weeks prior to the season starting, Southborough Football Club appointed a new management team to take them in a new direction and rebuild the team.

Abu Subhan (manager) and Glen Fanti (assistant manager) didn’t have much time to get ready for their first game but over the course of the season, they’ve managed to implement their tactics by dedicating a lot of time and effort on the training pitch.

Bringing in new players was a priority and with the heritage of the club this wasn’t too difficult. Initially they went out to friends and family to bring in players who would be dedicated, whilst keeping existing high calibre players was key to help integrate new players and explain the Southborough way.

Once results started talking for themselves, players were reaching out to them to join. They were unbeaten in their first nine games and quickly built up a gap at the top of the league, even taking points away from home at FC Revo who are the current league holders. Southborough FC are the only team in the Sevenoaks and District Football League with no losses.

The players have all bought in to the new regime and have been putting in 100% at training sessions, which has led them to the final of the Smith’s Senior League Cup, which takes place on Tuesday 25th April.

Southborough also reached the semi finals of the Kent Junior Cup A beating teams two and three leagues above them, unfortunately it was one step too far as they lost to last year’s finalists Littlebourne FC. Everyone at the club are very proud of the players and the effort they’ve all put in to bringing Southborough back to winning ways!

Southborough are looking for supporters to help them in the final push, as the management believe this is an integral part of them getting some silverware this season.

Grassroots football needs more support to encourage players to play and to keep clubs going. Southborough have ambitions of getting to the Kent County League and are always looking for new players to join the club.
