Sevenoaks Vine women’s team make history with league win

Sevenoaks Vine Cricket Club’s first ever women’s team made history on Sunday as they competed in and won their first ever competitive league match.

The team, coached by Susie Wilson-Rowe, the former Kent, Surrey, and England cricketer, travelled to Gravesend where they won the toss and elected to field in their inaugural Kent Women’s Development League match.

Opening bowler, Jasmine Beckett started the day in fine fashion taking her first wicket of the day before recording a wonderful three wickets for just one run which also included two maidens.

Michelle Ward picked up another two wickets, with Erin Oliver and Sarah Hoffman each getting in on the act to limit Gravesend to 63/9.

Lucinda Howard and Peroni Grant then opened the batting for Sevenoaks, both recording 10 runs apiece before Keri Holmes (9), Sophie Maunder (17) and Jen Wilson-Rowe (1) completed the scoring. Sevenoaks won the contest by eight wickets.

The club were proud to report the win on social media, saying: “HISTORY MADE!! Today SVCC Women’s team played in the first ever women’s league match in the club’s history. We played Gravesend CC and won by 8 wickets!! Well done to Jasmine Beckett on her outstanding bowling with figures of 3-1”.

Susie added: “From talking about it at the hockey club to making it happen. We started a women’s cricket team. #proudcoach”.
