Sevenoaks Vine and Holmesdale CC are sure to bounce back

At the start of the season, people were excited at the prospect of having two local teams in the top flight of Kent cricket. However, a little more than five months later and it looks like they may both perish at the bottom.

Sevenoaks Vine Cricket Club and Holmesdale Cricket Club have been participating in a very exciting Kent Premier League this season and with one match to go it is Sevenoaks Vine that still has every chance of survival.

Holmesdale CC will unfortunately finish bottom and have already been relegated in their first top flight appearance since 1998. They have managed just one win in 17 matches this season and despite receiving notable bonus points, they find themselves 69 points adrift of second from bottom Sevenoaks Vine on 81 points.

The last day of fixtures on Saturday 2nd September sees Sevenoaks Vine CC visiting fourth placed Blackheath CC with Hartley Country Club CC playing second placed Bexley CC. The good news for Sevenoaks is that Bexley CC need a win to have any chance of winning the title, however Sevenoaks also need to beat a strong Blackheath team as well to secure Premier League status next year. If this happens then it would see Hartley Country Club CC relegated just 12 months after lifting the Premier League trophy.

Andy Richardson, Chair of Sevenoaks Vine CC, said that it would not be the end of the world should they get relegated. He added: “Sevenoaks Vine’s future does not depend on this one match, we have worked extremely hard to put a good plan in place for the next generation of players in years to come and we will bounce back should the worst happen to us”.

Both Holmesdale CC and Sevenoaks Vine CC are always looking for fresh players at any level and both have fantastic youth programs for local kids. You can contact them through their websites at and
