Sevenoaks Town claim third successive home win

Fumnaya Shotomun is already becoming a fans favourite just a dozen games into his Sevenoaks Town career.

The Nigerian born, ex-Barnet man, struck his sixth goal of the season to spark Sevenoaks’ come from behind victory over Ashford United at The Bourne Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Shotomun’s sweet left foot strike put them level just past the hour mark shrugging off four defenders, before scoring from the edge of the area via the left hand post.

Oaks, without Freddie Parker who was injured in training, included two debutants, Kieran Cadogan and Daniel Carr, the latter coming off the bench to score the 89th minute decider, as Oaks claimed a third successive home win over one of the play-off contenders.

Striker Carr came through the Reading Academy before first coming to our attention with Dulwich Hamlet. He climbed back into the professional game with Huddersfield Town, and as well as turning out in Yorkshire had loan spells at Fleetwood Town, Mansfield Town and Dagenham & Redbridge before heading south to sign for Cambridge United.

Aldershot, Woking, a second spell at Hamlet and time at Leatherhead came next, before spells in Sweden, Ireland, Cyprus, Finland and India, like a footballing Travel Man. He ended last season back in Ireland, at Shelbourne.

Cadogan started the campaign at Pitching In Isthmian premier side Kingstonian, where he has made twenty three appearances and contributed three goals. The winger joined the K’s from their former landlords, Corinthian-Casuals, where he made forty nine appearances last season, and weighed in with eleven goals.

A former professional with Crystal Palace, he also played for the likes of Aldershot Town, Sutton United and Barnet, as well as playing in Gothenburg, Sweden.

United keeper Jacob Russell’s first minute save kept out Shotomun, while skipper Bentley Graham fired wide Gary Lockyer missed United’s first chance before Danny Parish put them ahead clipping the ball home from close-range, his fifth in successive games.

Oaks then had two penalty shouts not given in the space of four minutes before new boy Cadogan was denied by a last ditch defensive block.

Shomotun levelled just past the hour mark before Ashford gifted Oaks the 89th minute winner – defender Bradley Simms and Russell involved in a mix-up over a back pass, leaving Carr with a simple tap-in.

Four minutes into added time saw the visitors have claims for a penalty after the ball struck Karn Milller-Neave, but nothing was given.

Miller-Neave was the West Kent Sport & Wellbeing Man of the Match.

Sevenoaks: Tyler McCarthy, Lexus Beeden, Karn Miller-Neave, Bentley Graham, Rian Bray, Antone Joseph, Funyama Shomotun (Jordy Ndozid 90 mins), Ben Cheklit, Keiran Cadogan (Bradley Wilson 80 mins), Solomon Baugh, Josh Bohui (Daniel Carr 54 mins).
