Sevenoaks Suns supremacy as they complete perfect Championship season

ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON, the Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL) Champions, Sevenoaks Suns, finished their regular season with a 71-63 win over Nottingham Wildcats to secure them an unprecedented 100% win record for the year.

They have triumphed in each of their 22 matches this season to set a new standard in women’s basketball.

They now start the Play-Offs with a home match against Oaklands Wolves on Saturday evening at 6pm at the Sennocke Centre, on the road to the O2 in London, where the WBBL Play-Off final will be held on May 19th.

The Wildcats kept in contention through the first half, down by six at the half, but the Suns kept gradually building their advantage and pulled away in the second half to wrap up an unbeaten league campaign.

The Suns did their damage from outside with 14 of 40 shooting from 3-point range and they won the battle on the boards, 50-33.

Renee Busch led the way with 7 of 11 shooting from 3-point range for 21 points off the bench, while Carr posted 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in an all-round display.

Scorers on the day for the Suns were Renee Busch (21), Janice Monakana (12), Cat Carr (11), Ta’Yani Clark (9), Judith Koppl (6), Jess Good (6) and Vanessa Da Silva (2).
