The England Womens Basketball team have advanced to the Gold Medal match at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast after defeating Canada 65-53 in this mornings semi-finals.
In a huge turnaround from their preliminary group match versus Canada where they lost 80-54, England went for the win from the first quarter at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre. They led Canada for the entire game taking the first quarter 16-14, before extending their lead to 35-19 at the halftime interval.
Canada then held England to 19-19 in the third to set up a tense finish to the match, but England held on to finish the semi-final 62-53.
Sevenoaks Suns player Chantelle Pressley, finished second top scorer with 11 points, behind game hero Rachael Vanderwal on 20. Pressley managed three steals and two assists as she helped England overcome their Pool A rivals, and although she committed four personal fouls, Canada were no match for an upbeat England team.
England will now face favourites Australia in the final and are guaranteed to come away with a silver medal at worst. The final will be shown live on the BBC Sport website and possibly the BBC Red Button at 11.30am BST (8.30pm local time).
