Sevenoaks Town slip to first defeat of the season

A definite game of two halves saw Sevenoaks Town slip to a first Pitching In Isthmian League South East defeat of the season on Monday.

The first Step 4 contest between the two clubs was a very entertaining affair – especially for the neutrals in the near 290 crowd.

Oaks went in 2-1 ahead at the interval half-time – thanks to two impressive strikes by Yahya Bamba and Ryan Gondoh – book ending Chatham skipper’s Jack Evans’ 26th minute equaliser.

Oaks were left to reflect on conceding two  set-piece goals, central defender Reece Butler headed in unmarked to make it 2-2 nine minutes after the restart, Joseph Ogunseye firing in the winner 14 minutes from the end.

Oaks made a rapid start, Gondoh going close after only two minutes seeing his powerful effort pushed away by keeper Dan Ellis.

They went in front 12 minutes later, defender Matt Weaire’s diagonal pass found Gondoh who played in Bamba to beat Ellis inside his near post.

Chatham then hit the bar, Oaks keeper Tyler McCarthy tipping away Dan Bradshaw’s follow-up effort – but levelled things two minutes later, Evans shooting home inside a post from 25 yards.

Dan Hector’s effort was saved, before Gondoh got Oaks second – a superb 20-yard left foot finish that flew into the net, that looks better every time you watch it – already a candidate for any end of season goal of the season reel.

He almost set-up a third in first half stoppage-tlme – Bamba narrowly missing out at the far post.

Sevenoaks Town: Tyler McCarthy, Ryan Palmer, Lesley Duru, Omarr Lawson (Omari Hibbert 80 mins), Matthew Weaire (Tola Jonah 67 mins), Corey Holder, Bradley Wilson (Jordy Ndozid 74 mins), Daniel Hector, Freddie Parker, Ryan Gondoh, Yahaya Bamba.
