Sevenoaks Rugby Club’s 2nd XV convincingly beat Hastings & Bexhill RFC 62-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Their latest win now puts them top of England Rugby’s Counties 2 Kent Division, albeit with an extra match played over second placed Dover RFC and Canterbury RFC. But with just two more matches to play, Sevenoaks find themselves in a Championship race with a place in Kent’s top tier next season.
Tunbridge Wells RFC secure Regional 1 South East for another season
Tunbridge Wells RFC secured their place in England Rugby’s Regional 1 South East Division for another season after defeating table topping champions elect Westcombe Park RFC 37-19. The win leaves them in seventh place with three games to go, however they now can’t be caught from the chasing pack, unless of course they forfeit all their final matches.
National 2 East sides have mixed feelings about seasons end
Tonbridge Juddians RFC are all but safe in the National 2 East for another season after recording 11 wins out of 20 so far, putting them on 56 points and in eighth place. With six more games to play, Tonbridge will get the job done for certain when they host bottom side Westcliff this Saturday.
Sevenoaks’ 1st XV’s season is a little more in the balance though as they sit just outside the relegation places. As mentioned, Westcliff are cut adrift at the bottom of the table and will be relegated come April. That leaves just one more spot, and three teams into one simply doesn’t go.
Sevenoaks will now seemingly fight it out with Rochford Hundred and North Walsham, who are both within one win over leapfrogging them. However, Sevenoaks’ bonus points this season are far more superior than that of North Walsham, and along with their two draws, this could be the difference between success and failure.
Sevenoaks’ last three games of the season are against North Walsham, Tonbridge Juddians and Westcliff, but they will hope to get the job done before April comes.
