Sevenoaks Ladies raise their game to win at St Albans

Sevenoaks ladies 1st team battled to a 2-1 victory away at St Albans on Saturday. The away side had only managed to secure 1 point in their opening games but this did not seem to phase them as they scored the opening goal from a short corner in the first half. This put an end to Sevenoaks’ run of 6 games with a clean sheet but did not dampen their fighting spirit that they could come back from a deficit. Cathy Nicholson had a close range shot saved soon after and there continued to be moments of neat interchange however, the away team could not convert these chances.

Oaks were still down at the half time break but were quick to capitalise in the second half. A mazy run from Susie Rowe down the right baseline was slotted home from an acute angle. Sevenoaks continued their attacking pressure and were rewarded with a turnover in midfield. A reverse stick cross from Sophie Crosley found Maddie Thompson who finished with aplomb to the visiting supporters delight. More chances came and went for both sides but as the final minutes counted down Sevenoaks were able to retain possession and come away with 3 points.

Next week Sevenoaks play bottom of the table Chelmsford at home on Sunday 12th November at 1.30pm.
