Sevenoaks junior swimmers take second place

The second weekend of the Age Group South East Regional championships took place at the start of June ad proved to be yet another glorious event for the junior swimmers from Sevenoaks Swimming Club which ended with them being placed second overall in the medal table.

Noah Enticknap (13) kicked off proceedings with a well-earned 8th Place in the 800m freestyle for the boys with Euan Terry finishing in 13th in the 14yrs age group.

In the girls 50m backstroke there was a plethora of 11/12yrs old from Sevenoaks with Eva and Izabella Okaro and Millie Armstrong making the finals along with Millie Childs in the 14 yrs. Eva pulled out the first Gold of the Day with Izabella finishing in 5th and Millie Armstrong in 6th, Millie Childs then stormed from 4th qualifier to pick up a well-deserved Silver.

Soon after, the 200m freestyle beckoned for the boys with Joseph Box making the finals for the 11/12 yrs olds and Tom Creasey (13) and Louis Hayes (14). Joseph finished strongly for 6th, Tom took 8th and Louis bagged another Silver for Sevenoaks.

Shortly after was the 200m breaststroke for the girls with Eva and Emily Brown (12) making the finals along with Holli Gushlow and Imogen Stoddart (13). Eva just missed out on a podium place, finishing in 4th with Emily hot on her heels in 6th. Holli managed a great 7th with Imogen finishing in 8th.

The arduous 200m butterfly for the boys was next, with qualifiers William Jarrett and Macauley Johnston in the 11/12 yrs, Jaedon Lynch in the 13 yrs, and Euan Terry and Ben Strebel in the 14 yrs. Euan made the finals and swam strongly for a great 6th place.

The girls were back in the pool for the 100m freestyle with a whopping 10 qualifiers of which seven were in the 11/12 age group. Eva and Izabella qualified for the finals and Eva was top of the podium again for another Gold with Izabella in 6th. Lilie Chambers made the finals in for the 14 yrs and finished strongly for 6th.

The last event of the first day was the boys 100m Backstroke with Caiden and Louis flying the Sevenoaks flag. Louis qualified for the finals finishing a place higher than the heats and a Bronze medal.

Day two saw 28 races over six events for the Sevenoaks contingent, which started with the boy’s 50m Breaststroke. Sam Martin-Young and Albert Whitlock represented the 11/12 yrs olds, Jaedon, Noah and Thiago Gentles the 13yrs and Louis and Jacob Hudson the 14 yrs. Louis went on to the finals with a strong 4th as his final position.

The girls’ 50m Butterfly then followed with Eva & Izabella, Jessica, Emily, Sami and Millie Armstrong along with Elspeth, Imogen Millie Childs and Lilie Chambers pulling out fast swims. Eva and Izabella qualified for the 11/12 yrs old finals and pulled off a sister double act with Eva winning Gold and Izabella the Silver. Lilie also qualified for the final finishing strongly for 7th.

This was swiftly followed by the 100m Butterfly heats where they had nine qualifiers, Macaulay, William and Joseph in the 11/12 yrs, Jaedon & Caiden in the 13 yrs and Louis, Zac, Euan and Ben Strebel in the 14 yrs. All the boys produced some great swims with Louis swimming into a fine Gold medal position.

Seven girls then made the regionals for the 100m breaststroke, Eva, Emily, Jessica and Izabella for the 11/12 years, Imogen, Kara and Holli for the 13 yrs and Megan Marter for the 14 yrs. Eva and Emily made the finals in the 11/12 years with Eva bagging Silver place and Emily a Bronze medal. Imogen and Kara fought hard for 4th & 5th place with Imogen just pipping Kara.

Finally, the end was in sight and after a short break the final swimmers took to the pool for the 400m freestyle for the boys and the 400m IM for the girls. Noah, Euan and Ben represented the boys, all pulling off strong swims Noah for 9th and Euan and Ben 16th and 21st respectively. The girls were represented by Millie Armstrong and Elspeth Watson – both managed great swims after a long weekend, Millie a brave 7th place and Elspeth finished the weekend off in 5th.

A hugely successful Regionals with 24 Medals in total: 11 Gold, seven Silver and six Bronze medals. All the coaches were tremendously proud of all the swimmers and Sevenoaks Swimming Club thanked the coaches, volunteers, officials and parents for giving up their time supporting these events.
