Sevenoaks Hockey Juniors go for Gold

On Sunday, almost 200 young hockey players from Sevenoaks Hockey Club took over the hockey pitch at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.  The biennial visit has become a firm favourite for the club attracting players aged six to 16.

Of special interest to the players and their parents was a guest appearance of Sophie Bray, MBE.  Bray, 29, was part of the Gold medal winning hockey team from the 2016 Rio Olympics and she had brought her medal along to show to everyone. The session allowed the youngsters to hold the medal as well as a 2012 Olympic torch in between their training sessions and friendly games on the pitch.

Sevenoaks Junior Hockey Club Chair Jacqui Hudson commented: “Throughout the season, more than 100 volunteer coaches and helpers enable more than 700 youngsters to experience the fun and friendliness of hockey in a competitive but supportive environment.  Seeing so many of them playing on the pitch that has hosted world class fixtures was a pleasure for us to witness and we were especially grateful to Sophie for joining us for the day out.

“Who knows whether the opportunity to hold an Olympic Gold medal or an Olympic torch will inspire one of them to represent their country in the future; but possibly more importantly they will have heard from Sophie that learning the highs and lows of sport alongside friends that can last a lifetime is a joy for any player of any age”.

Sevenoaks Hockey Club welcomes players aged 6 upwards – both children and adults.  You can find out more by visiting www.sevenoakshockey.club
