Sevenoaks’ disappointing run continues

After a disappointing result against Canterbury the previous weekend, Sevenoaks headed off to Teddington who sat second in the league having only lost one previous fixture.

On what was a miserable day with persistent rain, Oaks came out the blocks flying and looked to lay down a marker in the first quarter. Several fluid interchanges through the lines created a handful of early opportunities, the best chance of the quarter being a well executed counter attack following a Teddington penalty corner, however Oaks just couldn’t quite find the back of the net.

The game changed in the second quarter with Teddington capitalising on a penalty corner, scoring with a straight flick from the top. Minutes later Teddington took a two goal lead as Oaks were dispossessed in their own half and a well finished shot from the baseline meant Teddington approached half time firmly in control of the game.

Oaks looked to fight their way back into the game in the third quarter and the pressure told with Oaks winning several penalty corners and starting to dictate passages of the game. A succession of penalty corners eventually saw Oaks find the back of the net, Kieran Walton scoring with a straight flick.

Unfortunately for Sevenoaks, almost as immediately as they found themselves back in the game, Teddington regained their two goal lead with a well executed open play goal.

Oaks continued to push in the final quarter with the weather calming down and the sun coming out. Oaks started the quarter brightly creating more opportunities however they could not capitalise inside the circle and despite Oaks best efforts, a penalty corner won on the counter allowed Teddington their fourth goal and the three points to boot.

Oaks travel to Brighton & Hove on Sunday with the hope that they can re-establish their form and get back to winning ways.
