Sevenoaks celebrate joint lead halfway through the season!

It was the final game of the first half of the season, and a win at Hollybush Lane would keep Sevenoaks Ladies 1s fighting for top space in England Hockey’s Vitality Division 1 South.

The game started very evenly with both teams having opportunities on goal. Sevenoaks had a the better of the chances to go one up but just missed a back post tap on.

Not long after, the first goal came from a broken down short corner – Susie Rowe passed the ball for a Jen Wilson deflection to go 1-0 up.

In the second quarter a quick long corner and reverse stick goal by Sophie Crosley put Sevenoaks 2-0 up. Witney were not backing down at all and pressed very high and were very quick on their counters.

The second half continued with Sevenoaks trying to get one more and Witney trying to get their team back in the game.

Lots of opportunities with short corners still arising, a wonderful set piece put Sevenoaks 3-0 up through an Emily Barratt reverse cross for a Sophie Maunder deflection which was applauded by both teams.

Witney did come back getting three shorts and putting the last one in. The game finished 3-1. Well done for a good finish to the first half of the season.

Sevenoaks sit joint top of the division with a minus four goal difference on early pace setters Isca & University of Exeter.
