Russell House duo represent Kent in U10 Nationals

Two Russell House pupils were among the team of five boys who represented Kent in the National U10 Tennis County Cup finals held in Sunderland in June. The team came within a hair’s breadth of winning the tournament overall.

At the start of the event, 42 counties were in competition to gain one of eight places in the final. Kent faced Sussex, Hampshire, Gloucestershire and Berkshire at the regional level and, having won these matches, secured their place in the national finals to compete for the UK title.

Set over three days, the format of the event included both singles and doubles matches. During the first two days, the Kent team successfully saw off North Wales, Dorset and Cambridgeshire, placing Kent at the top of their box.

On the final day of the event, Kent faced Middlesex, the winner of the second box, in competition for the title of U10 County Champions. Each team won two matches, so the deciding fifth match proved a nail biter. Middlesex won through on a shoot out, placing Kent in a very creditable second place.

Tommy and Nate, the pair who played for the county, also made it through to the finals of the Kent Schools doubles competition alongside Russell House girls, Lucy and Anna.

The annual Mini Red Tournament held at Russell House saw 28 competitors from schools across the Sevenoaks area battling it out. The home girls team, Martha and Ella, were runners up.

Russell House enjoyed double success at the finals of the Kent Schools doubles competition.
