With the benefits of 3G pitches during the winter months, both Tonbridge Angels and Sevenoaks Town managed to fit in two matches each during the last week.
Tonbridge Angels hosted Chippenham Town and Eastbourne Borough at the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium in the Vanarama National League South, and although the matches got underway despite ice and snow on the ground, the Angels struggled to match that with their performances.
Crossley Lema scored a 58th minute goal in front of 935 supporters on Saturday 11th January to earn Tonbridge a point against struggling Chippenham Town. However, the visit of high-flying Eastbourne Borough on Tuesday 14th January saw the Angels lose 2-0 on the night, despite being cheered on by 800 fans.
Tonbridge sit in 9th place after 25 games played on 39 points, but will still have aspirations to make the playoffs come the end of the season. They travel to Hampton & Richmond Borough this weekend.
Sevenoaks Town started their week with a trip to AFC Croydon Athletic on Tuesday 7th January, and despite going down 1-0 in the 8th minute, they rallied in the second half with goals from Rodney Eruotor, Ayomide Majekodunmi, and Warren-Hughes Mfula, to win the game 3-1.
On Saturday, Sevenoaks Town visited 3rd place Margate, who had lost only once all season, were unbeaten at home, and took top billing on the day after the top two found themselves kicking their- frozen- heels.
The Blues were hopeful of continuing that fine home record as Sevenoaks Town came to call, but Oaks were looking for their third win in a row and, after an even first half, took the lead just after the hour- Jefferson Aibangbee’s 17th goal of the season doing the damage.
The damage soon got worse, Warren Mfula making it 2-0 seven minutes later, and although the hosts hit back six minutes into added time, that was as good as it got for the home faithful.
Sevenoaks climb to 10th in the Isthmian League South East Division, and will look to continue their fine form when they host Ashford United at Greatness Park in Sevenoaks this Saturday.
Elsewhere, Larkfield & New Hythe kept up their impressive form in the Southern Counties East Premier Division with a 4-1 win over Bearsted, goals came from Bryan Zepo, Tyler Ibe, Harvey Welford, and Tyler Ibe. Larkfield currently sit in a comfortable 4th place in the division after 24 games played.
In the South East Counties Womens Football League Premier Division, league leaders Sevenoaks Town beat Margate 3-2 on the road, whilst Tunbridge Wells Foresters secured all three points with a 2-1 win over Tonbridge Angels in their mid-table battle. Kings Hill postponed their match yet again, meaning they have only completed seven matches this season, making them favourites for relegation.
All other matches were postponed due to the cold weather. For a comprehensive list of results, fixtures and league tables, download the Amherst Accountancy Weekly Sports Report for free at www.localsportsnews.co.uk/weekly.
