Performance Team are supporting local sport

The Performance Team at the Sennocke Sports Centre, Sevenoaks School is currently working in association with a number of local sports clubs and athletes to provide expertise and facilities in order to develop high performance sport. From our popular swim school, to grass roots sports clubs, to supporting international athletes under the Kent FANS Scheme, we are focused on helping increase local participation and performance.

The recently piloted Sevenoaks Performance Conditioning Academy, held at the Sennocke Centre, is presently delivering a foundation of strength and conditioning (S&C) support to local athletes and clubs.

A primary beneficiary to the pilot programme are the Sevenoaks Suns. These practical lessons and physical adaptations are all underpinned by Sennocke Centre’s S&C principles to determine ‘why’ specific training activities are required. The Sevenoaks Suns basketball team train and compete on the Sennocke Centre courts and are one of the most successful sports teams in the region, their most recent success being WBBL Play-Off Finals, held at The O2 arena.

Year round cricket is delivered by Invicta Cricket Coaching, whose coaching team regularly hold training camps for local young cricketers and provision to Sevenoaks School cricketers each morning. Most recently, a highly popular and successful evening lead by Sam Billings was coordinated using the Sennocke Centre venue and organised in affiliation with Invicta Cricket Coaching.

Sevenoaks Tennis Centre take advantage of the numerous indoor and outdoor courts available for competition and training delivering a fantastic tennis programme for pupils and local children alike. Additionally, a tennis specific fitness conditioning programme is completed by select individuals from this group to further enhance their movement on court. Close affiliation between Sevenoaks Tennis Centre and Sevenoaks School Performance Team is promoting long term athlete development programmes to support progression.

Local representatives of Saracens RFC Academy complete S&C at the newly refurbished gym under the supervision of the Performance Team. Junior age group rugby players within the Academy system attend weekly training sessions benefiting from both the facilities and the expertise of our highly trained staff. Currently the Sennocke Sports Centre holds a Performance Centre status with the LTA and the ECB, through Kent Cricket and host regular RFU Developing Player Programme events.

Continued S&C supervision to Sevenoaks School pupils has supported the recent success of Lucinda W who now holds the national record in javelin for her age group. A training load and a wellbeing emphasis encourages information sharing and initiating detailed communication with external coaches. Developing the high performance culture and sports science awareness, supports long term holistic progression.

We regularly hire our facilities to local clubs and have great relationships with them – locally, among others, we currently support; Sevenoaks Rugby, Sevenoaks Town Football, Sevenoaks Hockey Club, Sevenoaks Swim Club, Sevenoaks Athletics Club and 7Oaks Triathlon Club.
