Mighty Oaks defence gets stronger as they give away just 20 points in October

Sevenoaks Rugby Club celebrated October by giving away just 20 points in four matches, with three of those on the road.

Director of Rugby and the Mighty Oaks’ Head Coach, Adam Bowman, saw his team triumph 7-57 away at Sidcup at the start of the month, making it four consecutive wins for the Sevenoaks side, following their opening day defeat away at Hertford.

Sevenoaks then hosted Brighton & Hove at Knole Paddock in front of a surging crowd. The one sided affair saw the home side record a significant 50-3 result, keeping them in third place behind early leaders Wimbledon and Dorking.
The next match in the London & SE Premier was a trip to Sutton & Epsom where Sevenoaks continued their fine form with a comprehensive victory 10-31.

At the end of the month, Sevenoaks took to the road once again, this time travelling down the A21 to nearby Tunbridge Wells. A stylish display by the Mighty Oaks saw them coming home with a 0-45 win.

In total, the club’s first XV gave away just 20 points in total from the four matches played. Bowman commented after the victory in Tunbridge Wells that ‘the defence was magnificent’ which was also aimed at Sevenoaks 2nd XV who triumphed in Tunbridge Wells on the same day, beating their opponents 9-74.

Bowman, said after the matches, “A very pleasing day at the office for the squad with both teams winning today, which was our objective at the start of the week.

“Excluding some discipline issues around the breakdown and tackle area, I felt we delivered a clinical and controlled performance away from home. I was particularly pleased with our strong set piece display, our speed of ruck and our low error count in attack.“

November will see Sevenoaks play first and second in the league, but before that North Walsham, who are based in Norfolk, will make the long journey down to Kent at the start of the month. Sevenoaks will then travel to Wimbledon on November 13th before hosting Dorking back at the Paddock on November 27th.

Sevenoaks have all the bragging rights at present, having only given away 80 points in eight matches whilst scoring 270 in attack. The squads that Bowman and his assistants have put together are a force to be reckoned with, and we are anticipating some great results for the club over the next four weeks.
