Laura Trott MP: Rejuvenated centres key for our community

I hope all readers are already aware of the fantastic news that Sevenoaks Leisure Centre, alongside Lullingstone Golf Course and Edenbridge Leisure Centre have now reopened.
This is a very welcome development and one that I know our whole community has been hoping for after the last few difficult weeks.

On the day of the reopening, I had the pleasure of joining staff at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre, and it was brilliant to see hundreds of people of all ages flocking through the doors once again to enjoy the fantastic free activities and taster sessions which were put on.

The leisure centre is a vital community asset for all of us across Sevenoaks and it was an honour to meet two local Olympians, Joe Choong, the Modern Pentathlon Olympic Champion from Tokyo 2020 actually learnt to swim at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre, and Kate French the Tokyo 2020 Modern Pentathlete Gold medallist – who kindly came along, complete with their (very heavy!) medals.

Following its redecoration, the leisure centre was looking tremendous, and I would like to take this moment to say an enormous thank you for all the hard work that has gone into getting us to this point. I was told by Everyone Active, who is now running all three sites, that they had never reopened a leisure centre within such a short space of time.

For those of you unaware, Everyone Active already runs the White Oak Leisure Centre in Swanley and they have an excellent track record of innovation and amazing customer service. They have made the White Oak accessible and attractive to new customers of all ages and backgrounds and bought in hundreds of thousands of customers through the doors in the first year. With their new ideas and experience of running more than 200 leisure facilities nationwide, I feel optimistic about the future of both sites.

Already (at the time of writing) we have seen 1,500 fitness membership sign ups, over 250 swimming lesson customers and 150 golf members. Returning clubs and organisations are also very positive about the future and there have been lots of interest in the facilities from previous users who had stopped using the facilities.

If you haven’t yet visited the centre, please do pop down, meet the team, and book yourselves into one of the many classes taking place. The centre boasts both a 25-metre main pool and a smaller teaching pool, a gym, group exercise studios and a four-court sports hall. As well as a function room available for hire. The free Everyone Active app is the easiest and quickest way of booking all your classes and activities whenever and wherever you are located. It’s also available on iOS and Android mobiles and downloading it couldn’t be simpler – Search for “Everyone Active” in your app store.
