Sevenoaks Suns returned to the top of the WBBL Championship following two huge away wins at the weekend. The first of two dominant wins for the Suns moved their unbeaten league record to 15-0 on Saturday after a giant 51-point victory over Newcastle Eagles.
Newcastle got off to a rough start in the opening minutes of the first quarter, with Sevenoaks going on an 8-0 run before Eagles even got their first points on the scoring board. It wouldn’t get much better for the home side and as the period came to a close, Sevenoaks had established a 14 point lead, setting the tone for the remainder of the game.
Newcastle racked up 22 turnovers during the contest, and Sevenoaks were able to capitalise, netting 30 points from turnovers whilst Suns Captain, Cat Carr, knocked down 15 points for her team and also produced eight key assists for her fellow team mates.
Leaders scorers for the Suns were Cat Carr (15), Judit Fritz (14) and Ta’Yani Clark (13).
Sevenoaks Suns then travelled down to Nottingham on Sunday and were able to brush aside the Wildcats as they moved a step closer to that unbeaten season to go 16-0 in the standings with a 57-98 win.
Yet to taste defeat in the Championship, Len Busch and his players remain firmly on course to defend their coveted league title. As soon as Sevenoaks had netted a big haul of 29 first quarter points, it was never realistic there would be a turning point.
They then held their hosts to just nine points in the 3rd quarter whilst netting 30 points themselves, and the Suns were on fire from long-range too, with 17 three-pointers made.
Leaders scorers for the Suns were Judit Fritz (22), Cat Carr (18) and Renee Busch (18).
