Holmesdale Cricket Club were promoted back to the Kent Cricket League (KCL) Premier Division on the last day of the season despite their match against Dartford being abandoned due to the adverse weather conditions.
With over 14mm of rain falling in the 24 hours before the match, Holmesdale were always going to struggle to ready their pitch for the match, and whilst Sevenoaks Vine will feel a little hard done by after their final match went ahead, beating The Mote on the road, the match between the local rivals on the penultimate weekend was the real nail in the coffin.
Holmesdale promoted; Sevenoaks Vine remain in the Championship for another season.
Elsewhere in the KCL, Tunbridge Wells will remain in the Premier Division after finishing in fifth place. After a season to forget – with nine wins and eight losses – their final loss on September 7th gifted Blackheath the title.
Tunbridge Wells 2nd XI navigated their way to the top of Division 2 as Champions and will join Kings Hill in Division 1 next year. And Holmesdale 2nd lost their battle for survival in Division 4, so may meet Tonbridge in Division 5 Hurricane next season.
There was not much to report in the success stakes in the Sussex League, however Linden Park received a record they will not want. Four of their five teams got relegated, with only their 2nd team surviving the drop, just!

Over in the women’s game, so many congratulations go to Sevenoaks Vine Women’s 1st team who did the double by becoming the Kent Premier Division 1 Champions and the League Final winners, beating Merstham by 112 runs.
Their parent club took to social media to join in the celebrations saying: “Congratulations to the Women’s 1st XI who won the league final today to complete a very successful season. League winners and league final winners! Well done all!”
