Dragon Boat Race returns to Chipstead this Bank Holiday

The Chipstead Dragon Boat Festival is being rejuvenated for 2023 and will return to the shores of Chipstead Lake in Sevenoaks on the August Bank Holiday.

Not since 2018 has the small village of Chipstead hosted their Dragon Boat Festival, but when they do, it attracts many locals and tourists alike.

Teams expected to take part are from local businesses, sports clubs, schools, and community groups. The boats are designed to look like dragons, with brightly colored scales, fierce faces, and long, curved tails. Each boat is crewed by a team of 16 paddlers, who work together to propel the vessel through the water using long paddles.

The races are fast-paced and exciting, with teams battling it out to be the first across the finish line.

On the day there will be food trucks, an ice cream van, drinks and a raffle with all proceeds going to the Leonard Cheshire Care Home and Wealden Sailability.

Past winners of the boat race include Shame About Your Boat Race in 2018, Regan Rowers in 2015 and 2017, and Pilgrim Youth in 2016.

However 2023 will be bigger and better than ever as organisers promise a day like no other, so head down to Chipstead Lake from 10.00am.
