Dominant Sevenoaks shine at England Hockey National Cup

Sevenoaks Junior Hockey club Boys under-18 team started their England Hockey National Cup campaign with an away fixture against Bromley and Beckenham under-18s.

After a high intensity and focused warm up the boys started extremely well winning a penalty corner with their first attack of the match, and this saw Alex Thomson follow up on the initial shot to fire it away at close range to put Sevenoaks ahead. However the boys did not keep on top and allowed Bromley and Beckenham to draw level after some sloppy defending across the whole pitch.

Oaks were very determined not to let this happen again and after some great attacking work by Luke Lane down the right, Ashley Sewell soon put Sevenoaks ahead again with some great finishing. The home side did continue to pressurise the Oaks defence though and keeper Harry Wade had to pull of a couple of incredible saves to ensure they were denied any further scoring opportunities. Before half time Ben Fox secured the lead with a superb individual goal. 3-1.

Oaks went out in the second half determined to keep on top, keep their shape and use the width more. They were soon rewarded with a another goal after some super team work which saw Thomson claim his second with a brilliantly taken shot. Shortly after this Sewell added to his tally and Matt Morey also got his name on the score sheet, again both after some super team play working the ball out from defence and through the midfield.

The boys continued to pile on the pressure and Sewell scored once again to claim a well deserved hat trick.  Soon after this full back, captain Chris Hudson ran through from the back, eliminating several defenders and then firmly slotted the ball into the net to seal an extremely convincing victory for Sevenoaks. Final score was 8-1.

Oaks under-14 Girls
The Sevenoaks under-14 girls A team played Tunbridge Wells at home in the England hockey national cup on Sunday. The girls started well winning a penalty corner within 16 seconds of the push back and scoring the first goal after only three minutes with a fine shot from Josefina Hippe. Sevenoaks completely dominated the first thirty minutes and went into the half time break with a convincing 9-0 lead. with further goals from Amelie Allen (3), Lottie Bingham (2), Olivia Breed (2) and Phoebe Gough Cooper. Tunbridge Wells defended well in the second half and their goalkeeper made some fine saves to keep out many good attacks. Olivia Breed completed her hat trick and there were goals from Lulu Stephens and Annabel Cheveley (2) as well in the second half to give a well deserved and impressive 13-0 victory for Sevenoaks.

Under-14 Boys in another goal fest
The Sevenoaks Boys under-14A Hockey team put in another commanding performance over the weekend to win their latest England Hockey cup match. For the second match in succession they scored more than 10 goals in a game.  Having beaten Marlow 13-1 in their last league outing, they overcame a spirited Marden side 11-2.

The early stages were evenly contested, but once the Sevenoaks defence had mastered the pacey Marden attack – who looked dangerous on the break – there only looked like one winner. Solid defending, creative and incisive midfield interplay and a lively attack that was irrepressible team play in parts, proved too strong for the opposition to handle.

Goals were distributed across the side, led by Robin Docherty who top scored with five. The boys next match is a league match this weekend away at Bromley and Beckenham.
