Carr and Busch join familiar faces as Suns build roster for the 2021/22 WBBL season

Two of the most instrumental players in Sevenoaks Suns’ silverware rush during recent years are back on board for the 2021-22 WBBL season.

One of the greatest players in league history, Cat Carr will be returning to the club for her eighth season, having led Suns to another league title last year. She also scooped the WBBL Player of the Year honour for a second time. “I was excited when Cat made the decision to return for this season,” said Suns’ play-caller Len Busch. “She is such a great player and a terrific person, who makes everyone around her better.”

Carr herself issued a typically direct message upon re-signing, adding, “I’m looking forward to getting back out on the court with my teammates and battling together. Yes, it’s a new season, but we have the same goals and it’s time to get after it.”

Another pivotal player behind the Suns having landed eight trophies is Renee Busch, widely renowned for being one of the best shooters in the WBBL.

“Much like Cat, Renee has improved every year and she forces the other teams to respect her shooting, which opens up the middle for others,” said Coach Busch. “She is also one of our most vocal defenders, which is a big part of our defensive effectiveness.”

Renee added, “Yes, I am back again and I can’t believe this will be my sixth season with Suns
“Time has flown but I’m still enjoying it all and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be right now. I’m ready to soak up every moment of this season. I’m excited for our team and looking forward to competing together and making each other better.”

Renee Busch is ready to start her sixth season with Sevenoaks Suns.

Koppl and Fritz step back to Suns after time away
There will be another two familiar faces in the Sevenoaks Suns roster for the forthcoming 2021/22 WBBL season after the club struck deals for both Julia Koppl and Judit Fritz to return.

Koppl returns after spending the second part of last year in Germany and head coach Len Busch is pleased to have the ever reliable and impressive Koppl back on board.

Busch stated: “We are delighted to have Julia back. She has been a big part of our success in her time with Suns previously. She is one of the top forwards in the WBBL and we welcome her return.”

Koppl added: “I can’t wait to get started again and it’s great to be back at the Suns. The last season definitely didn’t go as planned for everyone, so that is why I am even more excited to get back into the gym and prepare for the upcoming season.”

Meanwhile Busch was also thrilled to secure the return of Fritz. He explained: “I was very pleased to hear that Judit wanted to come back this year. Her enthusiasm and joy for the game is priceless and she is great to have in the programme.”

The forward comes back into the mix after taking last year off from high level basketball. She was a mainstay of the Suns’ 2017/18 and 2018/19 League and Playoff Championship successes, as well as in the 2020 WBBL Cup, when she started in every game for the Suns during that run.

“Having spent most of last season off the court and following the WBBL from Hungary, I must say I could not be more excited to be back playing for Sevenoaks,” smiled Fritz.

“In many ways, it’s like coming home and I cannot wait to be back on the court again. We’ve all had a tough year behind us, which is all the more reason to look forward to this upcoming season and to enjoy every minute of it.”

Fritz said “it’s like coming home and I cannot wait to be back on the court again”
