Just 12 months after their triumphant rise to England Hockey’s Men’s Conference East, Tunbridge Wells Men’s 1s were beaten on a thrilling final day of the season, and will be relegated back to the South East Premier Division.
Wells faced Old Cranleighan on Sunday afternoon and needed a win to remain in the division, or Wimbledon’s 2s simply had to match Wells’ result.
Unfortunately neither happened as Tunbridge Wells went down 4-1, and despite a first half field goal from Bailey Wright, they couldn’t muster more on the day.
Wimbledon then came away from second place London Wayfarers with a surprise 2-1 win, breaking Wells’ hearts.
Elsewhere, Sevenoaks Hockey Club women’s 2s were also relegated from England Hockey’s Women’s Conference East after a challenging year which saw them win just three of their 18 games.
Hoping to bypass Sevenoaks in the South East Premier Division is local rivals Knole Park, who have a winner-takes-all match at home to Guildford 2s. A draw won’t be enough for the quick rising club as Guildford sit three points ahead in the table albeit with a lower goal difference.
