Good Friday played host to the two Sevenoaks Charity Cup finals, and fans were not disappointed with the level of football played across the two venues.
First up was the Junior Charity Cup between Weald Wolves and The Oaks, a match up that no one saw coming as Weald have struggled in Division Three this season, whilst The Oaks are unbeaten and champions of Division Two.
So the scene was set at Green Court Sports Club in Crockenhill for the two to do battle, and it certainly was a battle and they fought out a thrilling 0-0 draw. Into extra time and the sides still could not be divided so it was down to penalties, and it was The Oaks who squeezed past their opponents 4-5 to take the cup for the very first time.
This was Weald Wolves’ second charity cup final appearance in three years, so there’s no doubt they will be back again fighting for the trophy.
Into the afternoon where the Kent County League’s Aylesford (Division One Central) met Farnborough Old Boys Guild (Division Two West).
In a tight opening half it was Aylesford’s Harry Balderston who got himself on the scoresheet and that was how it stayed until the final whistle. Balderston also received the Man of the Match award for his efforts. Congratulations chaps!
Aylesford have enjoyed a good season so far, making the final of the DFDS Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield, along with their push at the top of the league, which has already guaranteed them Premier Division football next year.
Elsewhere, Aylesford’s Women are in a great position to be playing Premier Division football next season in the London & South East Regional League, with just one more match to go.
